You may see through emails and blogs that artists participate in all kinds of shows. A juried show is just one kind. Usually there is a national call for certain kinds of art or a specific organization asks its members to participate in a show.
In this case the National Association of Women Artists put out a call to its members for submission to an exhibit titled Works on Paper. There are very specific guidelines to be followed and a fee involved. After the submission the juror (an expert in the field of art) reviews the work and based on his/her critique a show is assembled.
